Child Care Courses: First Step to Become a Nursery Nurse

Nursery Assistants
Nursery assistants are involved with caring for babies, toddlers, pre-school children in a nursery or daycare environment. It is a supervised role and you will be expected to take responsibility for completing tasks and procedures that you have been instructed to do.

Recommended qualifications:

• CACHE NVQ Level 2 in Children's Care, Learning and Development
• CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Child Care and Education

Nursery Nurses
Nursery nurses work in childcare centers unsupervised, or in a nursery or daycare environment. It is a supervisory position and you will be expected to take responsibility and to plan for the development of the children in your care.

Required qualifications:

• CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Child Care and Education
• CACHE NVQ Level 3 in Children's Care, Learning and Development

Choosing the right Child Care Course

Certificate in Child Care and Education
This is a one year full-time or two years part time course for people wanting to be assistants in nurseries.

CACHE Diploma in Child Care and Education
This is a two year full time or three year part time course for people wanting to be nursery nurses, child minders, or nannies.

Specialist Teacher Assistant Award
This is a one year full-time course for people wanting to learn more about the National Curriculum so that they can support classroom teachers in infant schools.

Advanced Diploma in Child Care and Education
This is a one year full-time course or two year part-time course for experienced persons who want to update their knowledge or who want to run their own nursery.
