Nursery Nurses
Nursery nurses work in childcare centers unsupervised, or in a nursery or daycare environment. It is a supervisory position and you will be expected to take responsibility and to plan for the development of the children in your care.

  • CACHE NVQ Level 3 in Children's Care, Learning and Development

Choosing the right Child Care Course

This is a one year full-time or two years part time course for people wanting to be assistants in nurseries.

CACHE Diploma in Child Care and Education
This is a two year full time or three year part time course for people wanting to be nursery nurses, child minders, or nannies.

Specialist Teacher Assistant Award
This is a one year full-time course for people wanting to learn more about the National Curriculum so that they can support classroom teachers in infant schools.

Advanced Diploma in Child Care and Education
This is a one year full-time course or two year part-time course for experienced persons who want to update their knowledge or who want to run their own nursery.

Nursery assistants can earn:

  • Starting around £9,000 - £12,000 per year

Nursery Nurses can earn:

  • Starting around £15,000 - £19,000 per year
  • Up to £34,000 per year
    or more with experience and managerial posts

Hours Worked

  • up to 39 per week Monday to Friday

You are likely to have early starts and late finishes with parents dropping their children off before work and collecting them after work.

Due to the nature of this job you will mostly be working inside, in a noisy environment the work can be physically challenging.
